Kira Zeiter announced that she will be resigning as the Eastern New Mexico head softball coach.

“We thank Coach Zeiter for her leadership over the last few seasons and wish her the best as she moves on to future endeavors,” said Athletic Director Matt Billings.

Zeiter began her role as head coach in 2019. In her first season in Portales, the Greyhounds finished with an overall record of 12-30 and a conference record of 8-22. Freshman Iliana Mendoza was named Third Team All-Lone Star Conference at the season’s end after finishing second on the team with a batting average of .373.

During the shortened 2020 campaign, Zeiter led the Greyhounds to an 11-8 overall record which included a 5-1 mark in conference play. Eastern recorded multiple historic wins starting with a 7-5 victory over regionally ranked Colorado Mesa at the Cactus Classic. The Greyhounds continued with a 14-9 win against UT Permian Basin where the Hounds recorded four home runs which is tied for a program-best. The Hounds finished the season breaking a 35-game losing streak against West Texas A&M, sweeping the Buffs in a double-header (4-3, 5-4).

An interim head softball coach for the Greyhounds will be announced at a later time.
