Saturday dawned with typical New Mexico windy weather and just like the weather the Rams blew through Silver City quarterfinals winning 47-6.
Arriving at the stadium with a police escort and passing red, white, and black painted barrels and a huge “You’re In Ram Country” sign along the route, the Rams took the field as well as the game moving the Rams to semi-finals and ending Silver’s season.
With the quarterback/running back team of #3 Junior Ramirez and #1 Darion Ontiveros scoring just minutes into the game the tone was set and the Rams stayed on track ending the first quarter 19-0 and went to the lockers at half up 26-6. Minutes into the third quarter the Rams would put two more touchdowns on the board and backup quarterback Tyrese Dawson was sent in to finish out the game.
On the other side of the ball game, the special teams recovered a kickoff, blocked two punts and a PAT. Plagued during the regular season with costly penalties and turnovers, on Saturday the Rams saw very few yellow flags and the game ended with zero fumbles.
It was definitely a great day, to have a great day in “Ram Land”. Scoring for the Rams, #1 Darion Ontiveros (2), #3 Junior Ramirez (2), #14 Tyrese Dawson (1), #16 Marc Lovato (1), and #5 Adrian Short (1). The Rams advance to semi-finals taking on St. Michael’s in a Saturday 1:30 p.m. start again at home in the ENMU/Ram Stadium.
