DENTON, Texas — The Eastern New Mexico women’s soccer team battled hard before falling to Texas Woman’s 3-1 Saturday morning in Pioneer Soccer Park.
Freshman Taylor Fogle netted her first collegiate goal with just 30 second remaining in the first half but the Hounds struggled to create offensive chances in the final 45 minutes of the match. Eastern was out-shot 20-7 while two second half goals from the Pioneers ultimately sealed the game as the Hounds move to 4-4-1 overall and own a 1-4-0 conference record.
Fogle only managed one shot the entire match but made the most of her opportunity as she scored the Hounds lone goal. At the 43:52 mark freshman Josefina Villa sent a shot that missed its mark that gave TWU a goal kick with time winding down in the half. The Pioneers were unable to move the ball past the midline as Fogle intercepted the ball in TWU territory before scoring her first career goal.
Seven different Hounds recorded shots in the match with Julia Tucker, Naomi Abeyta, Desiree Morgas and Fogle hitting their mark with a shot on goal.
19 field players logged minutes throughout the contest as seniors Morgan Zuniga and Maddison Luttrell made their 2019 season debut playing 45 and 17 minutes respectively.
Junior goalkeeper Whitney Dockweiler made her ninth consecutive start between the pipes for the Hounds and finished five total saves.
Following a tough road trip, the Green and Silver return to Greyhound Stadium next weekend as thy host a pair of games against St. Edward’s and Angelo State.
