The Eastern New Mexico women’s soccer team will look to finish its regular season with the best winning percentage in program history when they travel to UT Permian Basin and Lubbock Christian this weekend in its season finale.

LAST WEEK

The Hounds won both of their matches last week with victories over Oklahoma Christian and Midwestern State, outscoring their opposition 7-3 in those contests.

Eastern notched five second-half goals to take down Oklahoma Christian by a final score of 5-2 on Thursday night inside Greyhound Stadium. A 0-0 game at the halftime break turned into a second-half shootout as the Hounds rattled off four unanswered goals after falling behind 1-0 just four minutes into the second half. Five different Greyhounds scored in the half to make a dominant offensive 45 minutes for the Greyhounds count as Eastern recorded 16 shots as a team for the half. Freshman Lauren Descamp answered the quick Lady Eagle goal coming out of the halftime break with a goal from the left side of the box off of a through-ball from Brianna Remedios. Descamp took the well-timed pass and beat the lone defender before finishing in the bottom corner of the goal. That goal from Descamp sparked the Greyhound offense, who dominated possession in the first half of action despite being held off of the scoreboard. Senior Desiree Morgas scored on a penalty kick that was set up by a hand ball by the Lady Eagles inside their own goal box to give the Hounds the 2-1 lead. Juniors Jaci Sievers and Caitlyn Schmidt as well as sophomore Angie Gonzales would also net a score in the match to put the game away.

The Hounds completed the second straight come from behind victory of the weekend as the Hounds took down Midwestern State by a final score of 2-1. The Greyhounds sent six seniors out in style as sophomore Desiree Morgas scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in the 71st minute. Eastern New Mexico paired the Morgas goal with an own goal on the Mustangs just over a minute earlier to negate a 1-0 halftime advantage for Midwestern State. In a very tightly contested defensive battle that featured just 15 shots between the two teams, costly mistakes by the Mustangs and well-timed offensive pressure from the Hounds proved to be the difference. Senior Julia Tucker forced the defensive miscue on the own goal by the Mustangs after breaking free down the sideline and sending a low cross into the box that was deflected by a Midwestern State defender into the box to even the match up at 1-1 in the 70th minute.
