Coming off one of the most successful seasons in program history, the Eastern New Mexico women’s soccer team has officially signed on 11 high school standouts during the fall signing period.
Alexandra Clark, Lauren DesCamp, Taylor Fogle, Abagail Guerrero, Kinsie Mitchell, Meredith Olson, Desirae Perea, Emily Quiros, Zowie Rodriguez, Caroline Ruiz, and Samantha Vasquez have all signed their national letters of intent to compete for Eastern New Mexico during the 2019 fall season.
Alexandra Clark, a defender from Albuquerque, N.M., will play for ENMU after competing at Sandia HS. Clark helped lead the Matadors to a 17-4 record and a victory in the 2018 5A State Championship over La Cueva, who won the championship on penalty kicks.”Alex has played at a high level here in New Mexico,” said ENMU Head Coach Joshua Smith. “The athleticism she will bring to our back line combined with her desire to win will be a great asset to our program.”A native of Dallas, Lauren DesCamp is a forward that comes to ENMU after competing at Hebron High School and FC Dallas Premier. DesCamp earned Second Team All-District after leading Hebron HS to a 12-6-3 record and the No. 15 ranking in the state of Texas during the 2018 season.
“Lauren is a dynamic forward,” said Smith. “She has a great ability to take people one-on-one and find the back of the net. She will be a great addition to our front line and will come in ready to compete next fall.”
Taylor Fogle, a midfielder from Frisco, Texas, will arrive after playing for Wakeland High School and also competed for the Sting ECNL Composite team. Fogle led Wakeland to a 5A State Championship, scoring the game-tying goal in the 46th minute of the second half. Fogle also earned University Interscholastic League (UIL) Conference 5A All-Tournament Team accolades last season for the Wolverines.
“Taylor is a gritty midfielder,” Smith said. “Her technical ability and IQ will be prove to be valuable to our team. Watching her grow as a player over the last year, Taylor will make an exciting addition to our midfield.”
A midfielder from Flower Mound, Texas, Abagail Guerrero will compete for the Hounds after playing for Flower Mound High School and the D’Feeters Kicks Soccer Club.
“Abigail is a versatile player who brings a tremendous intellect and work ethic to multiple places on the field,” said Smith. “We are excited to see her continue to grow and make an impact in our program.”
From Red Oak, Texas, Kinsie Mitchell is a defender that will bring depth the Hounds elite defensive backline. Mitchell currently competes at Red Oak High School and Solar 00 West Soccer Club.
“Kinsie is a versatile defender with a lot of experience,” Smith stated. “She possesses strong technical skills and a mind for the game. She will help push our back line moving forward.”
A native of The Colony, Texas, Meredith Olson will come to ENMU after competing for The Colony High School and the D’Feeters ECNL2 soccer club. Olson earned Second Team All-District as well as Academic All-District honors during the 2018 season. “Meredith is a tough winger and outside back who has made tremendous strides in her game over the last year,” said Smith. “Her competitive mentality will make her a fun player to watch in the fall.”
Coming to ENMU next fall from Albuquerque, N.M. will be Desirae Perea. A forward who competed at Hope Christian High School and the Rio Rapids 00 Soccer Club, Perea led the Huskies to an 18-3-2 record and an appearance in the 4A State Championship. In her final season with Hope Christian, she was one of the team’s top scorers with 11 goals.
“Des has played for one of the top teams in New Mexico and her growth has been tremendous,” Smith stated. “Her ability to challenge players and create opportunities for her strikers is top notch and will be a great asset for our offensive attack.”
A North Richmond Hills, Texas native, Emily Quiros will look to play forward this fall for the Greyhounds. Quiros plays for Richland High School and the Odyssey Football Club. She helped lead the Rebels to a 17-5 record as a junior and was the team’s top scorer. “Emily is a versatile, hard-working attacker,” Smith said. “She flew under the radar, but has the potential to come in and contribute nicely in a variety of positions for us in the attacking third of the field.”
From Corpus Christi, Texas, Zowie Rodriguez will join the Hounds after goalkeeping for the Express Dynamo Soccer Club. “Zowie is a raw goalkeeper who possesses great potential,” said Smith. “She is fearless and willing to work. Over the last year, Zowie has shown tremendous growth and we know she will come in and compete with our keepers.”
A native of Hurst, Texas, Caroline Ruiz will come to ENMU after competing at Birdville High School and the D’Feeters Kicks Soccer Club. Ruiz was part of a defense that led the Hawks to a 24-4 record in 2018 and a 12-2 mark in the 5A Region 1 District 8. Ruiz was an All-District defender during her junior season.”Caroline is a great defender,” stated Smith. “She is a versatile, strong defender who has played at a very high level. Her intellect and desire to compete will continue to drive her to compete with our backline.”
Rounding out the fall signing class is Samantha Vasquez. The Lubbock, Texas native will play for ENMU next fall after rounding out a strong career at Frenship High School and the FC Dallas club team. Vasquez helped led the Tigers to a 23-3-1 record during her junior season and a perfect 10-0 record in the 6A Region 1 District 2.
“Sam is a solid outside back,” Smith said. “She has good pace and the ability to defend top level forwards. She continues to impress us and we know she will be a great addition to our backline.”
Eastern adds to an already talented roster that went 9-9-2 in 2018, recording the second-most wins in program history and appeared in its first ever Lone Star Conference Championship match.
