Eastern New Mexico women’s basketball is proud to announce the signing of Jamesia Amand from Dallas, Texas.
Amand will add yet another talented post option for the Hounds and will make her way to Portales after spending her junior season at Division I Louisiana Tech University. The 6’3 native of Dallas also had a standout career at Hill Junior College in Hillsboro, Texas prior to her season at Louisiana Tech.
“It is with a lot of enthusiasm that we announce the signing of Jamesia “MeMe” Amand.” Head coach Josh Prock said, “MeMe has had a very accomplished career and comes to Eastern as a very experienced player. She is a physical post that brings experience and tremendous size to our front court.”
Amand led Hill Junior College to the 2019 North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference Championship and a no. 25 ranking in the final NJCAA regular season poll. She was named an All-Conference performer after averaging 10.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per contest, shooting 53 percent from the field as a sophomore.
She finished her career at Hill ranked in the top 10 in program history in five different statistical categories, including second on the program’s field goals made list.
“MeMe understands how to score in the low post area and is a very aggressive rebounder as well.” Coach Prock said, “She does a great job in transition, sprinting the floor, which allows her to gain position in the post. She is an outstanding young lady off the court as well and has done a great job in the classroom to be on track to get her degree in May. We are thankful she has joined our program and will represent our program well on and off the court.”
Amand made eight starts in 2019-20 for Louisiana Tech, appearing in 26 games while averaging 5.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per contest. She shot 45 percent from the field for the season and scored in double figures on four different occasions.
She will round out the 2020 signing class for Eastern New Mexico, joining fellow post signings Stacy Ajobiewe and Alexsis Johnson.
