Eastern New Mexico women’s basketball continues its season this Thursday, Feb. 3, as the Hounds welcome Texas Woman’s University to Greyhound Arena, with a 5 p.m. tip-off. Then, Eastern will tangle with Midwestern State University on Saturday, Feb. 5, with first tip scheduled from 2:00 p.m.

Both games will be broadcast on the radio, 105.9 KSEL-FM and KSELCountry.com with Donald “Doc” Elder calling the action. Games will also be broadcast on 106.5 KEND in Roswell and Artesia.

LAST TIME OUT

Recently, ENMU went 1-1 over the weekend, with a 57-54 win over UT Permian Basin on Thursday, Jan. 27, then dropping its final game 78-61 against Angelo State University on Saturday, Jan. 29. Iyanna McCurdy was the standout in both games, with double-doubles in both games. First, McCurdy collected 15 points and 10 rebounds in the win over UTPB, then tied a career high 22 points and a personal best 16 rebounds in the loss to ASU.

SCOUTING THE HOUNDS

Despite the recent loss, Eastern hold a 8-7 record on the season and a 4-5 standing in the Lone Star Conference. The Greyhounds offense is producing 60.2 points per game (ppg), while holding opponents to 64.6 ppg. From the field, ENMU are shooting 35.8% from the field, producing a 25.1% percentage from the three-point line, and holding a free throw percentage of 66.0%. On the glass, the Hounds find 40.5 rebounds per game (rpg), along with 8.8 assists per game (apg), 8.9 steals per game (spg), and 2.1 blocks per game (bpg).

Natalie Stice paces the team with 12.9 ppg, with McCurdy not far behind with 12.3 ppg. MeMe Amand is contributes 9.3 ppg to the Greyhound offense. McCurdy is the teams leading rebounder with 7.3 rpg, while Amand and Stice are next with 6.2 rpg and 5.8 rpg, respectively. Bella Stone leads the team with 1.9 apg, and Stice chipping in with 1.7 apg. McCrudy and Stone are tied for the team lead in steals with 1.7 spg, and Kamirah Decker provides a team high 0.6 bpg.

Statistically speaking, the Hounds rank fourth in the LSC for rebounding and rebounding margin, with 40.5 rpg and a rebounding margin of +4.3 rpg. Individually, McCurdy ranks 9th in the conference with 7.3 rpg, and Stice sits in 9th for three-point field goals made per game with 1.7.

SCOUTING THE COMPETITION 

Texas Woman’s University

The Pioneers came into the game riding a three game win streak having beaten UT Tyler 57-51, on Monday, Jan. 31. On the season, TWU sit at 13-5 and hold an LSC standing of 6-1.

Texas Woman’s score 63.9 ppg, and allow 58.3 ppg (3rd best in the conference). In terms of percentages, the Pioneers shoot 39.8% from the field, 30.0% from the behind the arc, and 73.6%% (3rd in the LSC) from the charity strike. TWU produces 36.4 rpg, 10.5 apg, 8.7 spg, and 2.4 spg.

Leading the Pioneers, Sadie Moyer scores 14.2 ppg (8th in the conference), while Ashley Ingram pours in 13.1 points per game. Ashley Ingram leads the team with 6.4 rpg, while Agang Tac collects 5.7 rpg. Tac leads the team with 1.1 bpg (9th in LSC) and Brielle leads the defensive pressure with 1.9 spg (9th in LSC).

Midwestern State University

The Mustangs come into the weekend with a record of 10-8, and a conference standing of 4-4. In its most recent games, MSU pulled off a 61-49 win over West Texas A&M University on Thursday, Jan. 27. Then, fell 81-46 against Cameron University, on Saturday, Jan. 29. Midwestern State will play Lubbock Christian University on Thursday, Feb. 3, before taking on the Hounds.

Collectively, MSU are finding 66.3 ppg and opponents are scoring 73.8 ppg against the Mustangs. Midwestern State produce a 40.6% shooting percentage, 31.8% from distance, and 70.8% at the line. Overall, the Mustangs are pulling down 36.6 rpg, 13.1 apg, 8.2 spg, and 5.2 bpg (leading the LSC in blocks).

Individually, Morgan Lenahan is finding 14.8 ppg (7th in LSC), and 6.0 rpg (second on team). Frances King is second on the team in scoring with 12.4 ppg, along with leading the team in assists with 4.7 apg (leads conference). Hannah Reynolds is the team’s best rebounder with 6.5 rebound per game, Reynolds also leads the team in blocks with 2.5 bpg (2nd in LSC).
