Following a weekend sweep, Eastern New Mexico women’s basketball will travel to play UT Permian Basin on Thursday, Jan. 27, with first tip set for 4:15 p.m. MST. Then, the Hounds will tend to Angelo State University on Saturday, Jan. 29, in San Angelo, Texas. The game will start at 1 p.m. against the Rambelles.

Both games will be broadcast on 105.9 KSEL-FM and KSELCountry.com with Donald “Doc” Elder calling the action. Games will also be broadcast on 106.5 KEND in Roswell and Artesia.

LAST TIME OUT

Eastern currently hold a two-game win streak following a 77-61 win over St. Mary’s University on Thursday, Jan. 20, and a victory over St. Edward’s University, 62-54, on Saturday, Jan. 22. In the win versus St. Mary’s, four Greyhounds reached double figures with Iyanna McCurdy producing a double-double (18 points and 13 rebounds). Meanwhile, Natalie Stice paved the way for the Hounds win over St. Edward’s with 21 points and 12 rebounds.

SCOUTING THE HOUNDS

ENMU come into this week’s games with a 7-6 standing, while holding a conference record of 3-4. The Hounds offense is scoring 60.4 points per game (PPG), while allowing just 64.4 ppg. Percentage wise, Eastern are averaging 35.9% shooting from the field, 26.5% from behind the three-point line, and 66.7% at the free throw line. The Greyhounds are producing 40.8 rebounds per game (rpg), finding 9.0 assists per game (apg), grabbing 9.2 steals per game (spg), and posting 2.2 blocks per game (bpg).

The Hounds scoring leader is Stice with 13.4 ppg, with McCurdy also holding double figures in scoring, 11.3 ppg. MeMe Amand contributes 9.6 ppg, while leading the team in rebounding with 6.8 rpg. McCurdy and Stice are next for ENMU with rebounds, with 6.5 rpg and 6.2 rpg, respectively. Bella Stone paces the team in both assists (2.0 apg) and steal (1.8 spg). Kamirah Decker leads the Greyhound in blocks with 0.7 bpg.

Around the conference, Eastern is one of the top rebounding teams in the Lone Star Conference (LSC) averaging 40.8 rpg (4th), holding teams to 35.5 rpg (6th), and producing a rebounding margin of +5.4 rpg (3rd). Individually, Stice sits in 9th for three-pointers made per game with 1.7 three pointers per game.

SCOUTING THE COMPETITION 

UT Permian Basin

The Falcons currently hold record of 4-13, and are winless in conference play, 0-5. UTPB are on a five-game losing skid, having last loss against Cameron University, 67-66, on Thursday, Jan. 20, and a 61-44 defeat at West Texas A&M University on Saturday, Jan. 22.

UT Permian Basin are finding 60.0 ppg and allowing 62.4 ppg. The Falcons are posting a shooting percentage of 37.6%, 24.3% at a distance, and 66.5% from the charity stripe. On the glass, UTPB pull down 35.2 rbg, dish out 11.0 apg, and find 1.9 bpg. The Falcons standout in steals, holding an impressive 12.7 spg, leading all conference opponents and landing in 15th across all of Division II for steals.

Alexus Wykoff is the Falcons primary scorer with 13.8 ppg, and leading the conference in field goal percentage at 63.8%, while Avalon Munoz contributes 9.8 ppg. Alexus Quaadman is the leading rebounder with 5.5 rpg, with Wykoof and Munoz finding 4.5 rpg. Munoz is also solid defensively with 2.4 spg (4th in conference).

Angelo State University

ASU enter the weekend at 5-10 on the season, and 2-2 in LSC play. The Rambelles will take on #8 Lubbock Christian University on Thursday, Jan. 27, before facing Eastern on Saturday, Jan. 29. Last time out, ASU dropped a conference contest against Cameron University, 100-68, on Saturday, Jan. 22.

As a team, Angelo State’s offense is producing 65.8 ppg, and allowing 67.5 ppg. From the field, the Rambelles average 38.9% from the field, 21.9% on three-pointers, and 70.2% at the free throw line. ASU collect 39.4 rpg, find 15.3 apg (3rd in the LSC), gather 9.6 spg (5th in the LSC), and knock away 2.1 bpg.

Blakey Gerber leads a balanced offense with 10.9 ppg, Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant contributes 10.2 ppg, and Payton Brown adds 10.1 ppg. Madeline Stephens is the top rebounder for the Rambelles with 7.5 rpg (9th in conference), with McGhee-Pleasant collecting 5.8 rpg. Brown is one of the conferences leaders in assists, finding 4.4 apg (3rd in the LSC).
