COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The 5-1 Eastern New Mexico women’s basketball team moved up a spot to No. 5 in the Week 3 D2SIDA South Central Regional Poll, released Monday morning.
The Hounds posted a perfect 2-0 record last week at the WT Pak-A-Sak Thanksgiving Classic following wins over CSU-Pueblo and Adams State.
Junior Alivia Lewis and senior Jasmine Williams posted their second double-doubles of the season against Pueblo as the Hounds took a comfortable 77-59 victory. Lewis led the squad offensively with a game-high 18 points and also hauled in ten rebounds. Williams tallied 12 points and corralled 17 rebounds, the second-best mark in the LSC this season and tied for the fifth-best in the ENMU single-game record book.
The Hounds concluded the weekend with their most dominant win of the year, defeating Adams State 64-41. Lewis led the team again with 13 points and nine rebounds while senior Jerraysha Smith turned in her best game of the season, matching Lewis’s game-high nine boards while adding seven points in 20 minutes of action.
Eastern continues to dominant on the glass and not only lead the conference in rebounding are also one of the best rebounding teams in all of NCAA Division II women’s basketball. The Hounds ranks eight in the nation with a rebounding margin of 14.7, rank 12th with 45.7 rebounds per game and rank 14th with 274 total rebounds.
The Green and Silver will look to continue their recent success when they host Northern New Mexico this Thursday in the team’s home opener.
