Women’s Basketball Earns Second-Straight Bid to NCAA South Central Regional Tournament
The 2019-20 season will continue for Eastern New Mexico women’s basketball, as the Hounds have secured the No. 7 seed in the NCAA DII South Central Regional Tournament announced Sunday night in the NCAA DII Women’s Basketball Selection Show.
Head Coach Josh Prock has led his team to its second-straight NCAA Tournament and its third in the last four seasons. These have been the only three trips to the NCAA Tournament in program history.
The Green and Silver will face off against the No. 2 seed Texas A&M-Commerce and will look to avenge a 68-59 loss to the Lions suffered in the semifinal round of the Lone Star Conference Women’s Basketball Championship.
Eastern began its postseason with a dominant 70-52 victory over Oklahoma Christian in the first round of the LSC Tournament before knocking off Tarleton State 66-62 in a come from behind win that wasn’t decided until the final seconds of regulation.
The Hounds earned their right to be selected to the NCAA Tournament field with the program’s fourth ever 20-win season after posting an impressive 22-9 overall record which includes a 14-8 mark in conference play. This year’s team was the first since the 1992-93 squad to move past the second round of the LSC Tournament.
Following its first LSC Championship in just its first season as a member of the conference, the Lady Chaps of Lubbock Christian have claimed the No. 1 seed in the region and will host the regional tournament.
The Hounds will face Commerce on Friday, March 13 inside RIP Griffin Center in Lubbock, Texas.
