Eastern New Mexico women’s basketball concludes its three-game home stretch on Monday, Feb. 7, as the Hounds welcome Oklahoma Christian University. This game was originally scheduled for Jan. 6, but had to be rescheduled.

Monday’s game will be broadcast on the radio, 105.9 KSEL-FM and KSELCountry.com with Donald “Doc” Elder calling the action. Games will also be broadcast on 106.5 KEND in Roswell and Artesia.

LAST TIME OUT

Eastern enter the early week contest after two defeats over the weekend. First, the Hounds dropped a tight game to Texas Women’s University, 63-57, on Thursday, Feb. 3. Natalie Stice led the Hounds with 18 points, while Iyanna McCurdy recorded a double-double, 12 points and 12 rebounds, in the loss to the Pioneers. Then, ENMU fell in a high scoring game, 79-70 to Midwestern State University on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 5. McCurdy recorded a career high with 24 points, while securing a team high eight rebounds against the Mustangs.

SCOUTING THE HOUNDS

Overall, the Hounds find themselves in a three-game slump, holding a record of 8-9 and 4-7 in Lone Star Conference play. The Hounds are scoring 60.6 points per game (ppg), and holding opponents to 65.4 ppg. ENMU post a field goal percentage of 36.5%, 24.7% from behind the arc, and 64.7% at the free throw line. In the paint, the Greyhounds pull down 40.2 rebounds per game (rpg), dish out 9.0 assists per game (apg), grab 9.0 steals per game (spg), and post 2.2 blocks a per game (bpg).

Stice and McCurdy are the offensive threats for Eastern with 13.2 ppg and 12.9 ppg, respectively. MeMe Amand is adding 8.9 ppg to the offense, and Kamirah Decker chips in with 7.9 ppg. McCurdy leads the rebounding effort with 7.6 rpg, while Stice and Amand are just behind with 5.8 rpg from Stice and 5.6 rpg. Bella Stone leads the team in both assists and steals with 1.8 apg and 1.8 spg. Decker protects the rim with 0.7 bpg, leading the Greyhounds.

Around the conference, Eastern ranks fourth in the LSC for rebounding and rebounding margin, with 40.2 rpg and a rebounding margin of +3.5 rpg. Individually, McCurdy ranks 6th in field goal percentage with a .439 shooting percentage. McCurdy also sits 8th in the conference with 7.6 rpg, while Stice sits in 10th for three-point field goals made per game with 1.7.

SCOUTING THE COMPETITION 

Oklahoma Christian University

The Eagles are still in search for its first win of the season, holding a season standing of 0-17, and 0-8 in LSC play. This past weekend, Oklahoma Christian were beaten 72-67 by UT-Tyler on Thursday, Feb. 3, and 69-58 against Texas A&M-Commerce, on Saturday, Feb. 5.

Collectively, OC is posting 63.4 ppg, but allowing 78.1 ppg. The Eagles hold a shooting percentage of 35.6%, 25.1% at range, and 72.4% from the charity stripe. Overall, Oklahoma Christian pull together 36.6 rpg, find 13.4 apg, collect 9.6 spg (5th in conference), and hand out 2.5 bpg.

Brooklin Bain is the standout for the Eagles with 15.8 ppg (4th in LSC), and 10.0 rpg (2nd in LSC). Kate Bradley also has a major impact on the offense with 12.7 ppg, and a team leading 3.9 apg (7th in the conference). Bradley also lands in the top five of the conference for 3PT% sinking three-pointers at a rate of 30.2%, along with making 2.1 threes per game. Kendall Blackburn contributes 6.6 rebound per contest, and leads the team with 0.8 bpg.
