PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Women’s Basketball Head Coach Meghan De los Reyes has announced the first three new additions to the Greyhound Roster for the 2022-23 season.
De los Reyes brings in guards Corin Camara and Marley Freeman, and forward Deja Anderson. Camara and Freeman come into the team as first-year students, and Anderson is a junior college transfer.
Camara joins Eastern from Buchanan High School in Clovis, Calif. after a standout offensive season. In their final season at Buchanan, Camara averaged 15.0 points per game (ppg) along with 4.0 rebound per game (rpg). Camara is a great shooter from behind the arc, finishing the season with a 36% shooting percentage from range, sinking 125 triples this past season, and an 87.5% free throw percentage.
“Corin comes to us this fall as one of the best shooters in the country,” said De los Reyes. “We look forward to her ability to put up points fast from behind the arc while providing great length and defensive prowess on the other end of the floor”.
Freeman comes to Portales from Brandon High School in Brandon, Miss. Playing as a point guard and shooting guard, Freeman provided 12.4 ppg and 3.3 assists per game (apg). Freeman helped their team to a 17-10 record, while playing in 24 games.
“Marley adds valuable depth for us at the point guard position along with great versatility to score at all three levels. She is a crafty guard who has a really bright future ahead,” said De los Reyes.
Coming from Blinn C.C., Anderson joins Eastern New Mexico after winning the NJCAA Region XIV Championship in 2021-22. With the Buccaneers, Anderson made 29 starts and played in 31 games in the season. In 26.1 minutes per game game, Anderson averaged 9.3 ppg and 8.5 rbg, while shooting 47.6% from the floor. Anderson posted double-digit points 14 times and collected over 10 rebounds on ten occasions.
“Deja is an outstanding competitor who impacts every aspect of the game,” said De los Reyes. “She will be a force on the glass, can both defend and play multiple positions on the floor, and brings experience and incredible energy both on and off the court”.
The Eastern New Mexico women’s basketball qualified for the postseason for the seventh time in the last eight seasons, in in the first year of the De los Reyes era. This past season, the Greyhounds reached the first round of the LSC Conference Tournament before bowing out in the first round. Iyanna McCurdy and Natalie Stice both received all-conference recognition after the season, with McCurdy being named to the All-LSC Second Team and Stice received an honorable mention.
