Funeral services for Wesley Andes, 89, of Portales, will be at 2:30 PM, Fri., Mar. 17, 2017 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Steve Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Benson Cemetery with Steve Adkins, Gary Adkins, John Wayne Elliott, Roger Elliott, Shane Andes and Cole Andes serving as pallbearers. Jimmy Elliott, Donnie Rogers and Charles Rogers will be honorary pallbearers. The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Thurs. evening, Mar. 16, 2017 from 6 to 8 PM.
Wesley Andes was born Nov. 22, 1927 in the Mesa community west of Floyd to the home of Lauretta and “Bug” Andes, and died Mar. 13, 2017 at his home. He attended school in Floyd, and graduated in 1945. While in school, Wesley played basketball, and was on the State Championship team in his senior year. After graduation, Mr. Andes began farming in the Bethel community, where he also ran a dairy and had cattle and horses. Later, he went to work for Chaves County as a heavy equipment operator for the county road department. He had been retired for a number of years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and going camping.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Sam Andes of Clovis and Todd and Monica Andes of Tucson, AZ; a daughter, Robbie “Rob” Andes of Portales; four grandchildren, Shane (Christina) Andes, Cole (Coli) Andes, Emma Andes and Jackson Andes; five great-grandchildren, Faith, Bryce, Jordan, Angie and Owen Andes; a sister, Jessie Rogers of Portales; his nieces and nephews and his faithful dog, Maya that he called “Little Bit.” He was preceded in death by both of his parents, a brother, John Howard Andes and three sisters, Alene Elliott, Thelma Sullins and Mattie Chamberland.
