What a crazy day yesterday was, Sunday – September 8th. We all woke up to NO water! The water that we so take for granted every day was not coming out of our faucets, not filling the tank so we could flush our toilet’s, the restaurants that we count on to go out to eat at or perhaps grab fast food were not open, the Church that we go to had a sign on the window, “service closed.” Our world was off center; things were just not right. Some of the things that we take for granted were just not there.

However, in the mess of all that it seemed that we were a little tighter community banding together through sharing of well water by several individuals and Enchanted Vineyards.  DFA workers jumped to our aid bringing tankers of water to be distributed at a few places through town. The news of the workers and pictures were being shared through social media, the city workers had been working straight through the night. It seems that sometimes it takes a tragedy or in our case an inconvenience to band us together as a community. As the days go by and we have all the luxuries that we enjoy every day, I hope we keep that sense of community or at least a little of it until the next thing comes up. I pray it is as slight as a lack of running water.

And remember to prepare for those times, fill those water jugs to flush toilets, keep a case of water on hand at all times. I hope we can as a community find a way to “fix” our water problem in a sound and constructive way.

In the meantime, do your laundry and wash your dishes with a new sense of gratitude.
