I am a resident of Roosevelt County (Portales, NM) , and I received a letter today from the Roosevelt County Water Cooperative (RCWC), indicting our water rates are being increased by the City of Portales by as much as 75%. The RCWC letter indicated they have been in negotiations with the City of Portales, but the negotiations have stalled, and the City has put out a directive to arbitarily raise the rates effective the 1st of January 2023.
Meanwhile, the City of Portales have recently passed a water rate increase for City residents at 8%. This is clearly unfair, as the City residents use higher amount of water as County residents.
I have a copy of the letter sent to the County residents, that I am willing to share. I am requesting that someone look into this matter as a public concern. Especially, during this time when families are struggling to make ends meet. I feel this is an unfair increase to county residents.
