Graveside services for Vicky Niece are pending.  All of her grandchildren and nieces and nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Vicky Lea Niece was born July 3, 1954, in Fort Sumner, NM to the home of Joy Ann (Foor) and Sykes Bell Gleaton, and died Tues. evening, Dec. 7, 2021 in Portales.  In her teen years, Vicky moved to FloydadaShe moved back to Clovis in the early 1970’s, and that was where she first met Doug Niece.  The were married in 1972, and from that union were born three children.  For a period of time, Vicky worked as a server at the Prince Street Lounge.  In the early 1980’s, the family moved to Portales, and then Vicky and children moved to Elkhart, KS.  During her time in Elkhart, she worked at a feed yard owned by her brother-in-law.  She also worked part time at a local bakery.  Her favorite form of work was ranch work, and being on horseback.  In the early 1990’s, she moved back to eastern New Mexico, and for several years her home was in Roswell.  About 2014 she moved to Portales to live.

While growing up, Vicky was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner. Later, she belonged to the First Baptist Church in Elkhart. Besides ranch type work outdoors, she also enjoyed yard work. Following the death of her daughter in 2012, Vicky reared her daughter’s two youngest children. If you knew Vicky, you could not stay in a bad mood. Before very long, she would have you laughing. For her own enjoyment, she liked driving through the countryside looking for wildlife of various kinds. Vicky loved animals of all sorts, but especially she was fond of her Chihuahuas.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dusty Price and Betsy Niece and Stuart Wayde Niece of Portales; 8 grandchildren, Kylie Beth and Trevin Bryce Niece, Anthony Ryan Docter, Mikaylan Joy and Abigail Diane Niece, Brenden James and Peyton Wayde Usrey and Baylea Lynnette Simms; a brother and sister-in-law, Randy Bell and Terri Gleaton of Clovis, NM; and a sister and brother-in-law, Christine Elaine and Fred King of Branson, MO.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Sherry Ann Webb, and two daughters, on that was stillborn and April Joy Usrey who died in 2012.
