The Eastern New Mexico University Rodeo team wrapped up the final day of the College National Finals Rodeo with one athlete competing in Saturday’s short go. Celie Vick represented ENMU well as the senior earned a top-10 finish to wrap up her college career.
Vick entered Saturday’s final ranked No. 7 in the nation after posting a time of 6.3 in the third round, which was tied for second-fastest in that round and it gave her an average of 20.5. She went 6.9 and 7.3 in the first and second go, respectively. She went 7.6 in the short go, which was tied for eighth in the round and earned her an eighth place finish overall.
Vick’s performance in this same event a year ago saw her finish seventh at the 2017 CNFR with times of 7.7 in the short go and 6.3, 6.5 and 7.2 in the first, second and third go, respectively.
The two other competitors for the Greyhounds were Lindsey Adcock in the the breakaway roping and Landon Beardsworth in the steer wrestling. Adcock had a no time in her first go and went 11.9 and 11.8 in the second and third round, respectively. She finished 32nd overall with an average of 23.7. Beardsworth posted a pair of no times in the first and second, while going 9.3 in the third go. He finished 46th overall in the event.
As a team, the women totaled 80 points to place 22nd overall, with all the points coming from Vick’s solid performance in the goat tying. McNeese State took home the team title for the women with 480 points, edging Texas Tech by five points. One the men’s side, Panhandle State won the team title with 750 points.
