The Lone Star conference office has recently announced Eastern New Mexico kicker Tyler Vargas as it’s LSC Special Teams Player of the Week for the fifth week of regular season play.
Vargas totaled 11 points in the Hound’s 31-23 loss at home to #5 Midwestern State and converted on all three of his field goal attempts throughout the contest. The San Diego, Calif. Native converted on attempts of 33, 30 and 40 yards to record a season-high three field goal makes for the game.
Vargas also had three punts for a total of 105 yards in the contest and produced five kickoffs throughout the evening for an average of 57.0 yards per kickoff. The Eastern New Mexico standout now ranks third in the conference in field goal percentage (83.3%) after converting on 5-of-6 attempts for the season.
He also sits fifth in the league in punting average with an average of 40.2 yards per punt and has been a consistent factor on the field position battle for the Hounds throughout the season.
