MIDLAND, Texas – The Eastern New Mexico football team battled the University of Texas Permian Basin on Saturday night at Grande Stadium. UTPB topped the Greyhounds, 44-21.
The Falcons struck first when Clayton Roberts connected with MJ Link for a six-yard touchdown pass. The extra point attempt was good to give UTPB the 7-0 advantage.
Permian Basin extended that lead to 10-0 with a field goal in the beginning of the second quarter before the Greyhounds responded with a touchdown rush from Isaiah Tate to make it a 10-7 game.
Sateki Wolfgramm recovered a fumble after a sack by teammate Mazin Richards and ran it in for a touchdown to give Eastern the 14-10 lead.
However, UTPB answered right back with a touchdown of their own to regain the advantage, 17-14.
With time winding down in the second quarter, the Hounds saw Howard Russell complete a 57-yard touchdown run to give a 21-17 lead heading into halftime.
The Falcons went on to score 29 unanswered points throughout the second half though to earn the 44-21 victory.
NOTABLE STATS
- Nathan Valencia finished the game 12-26 passing for 95 yards.
- Martavius Dill led the way in receiving yards with 44 on five catches. Justin Manyweatheralso finished the game with five receptions.
- On the ground, Russell led all players with 168 rushing yards. He averaged 6.5 yards per rush throughout the contest.
- Defensively, Camron Pitcher Jr. had seven tackles, while Vicen’te Walker was close behind with six.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Greyhounds shift to 3-5 on the season overall and 1-4 in Lone Star Conference play.
- UTPB improves to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
- Eastern still holds a slight 3-2 advantage in the overall series with the Falcons. UTBP picked up wins in the last two meetings.
- ENMU is back in action for its last home game of the regular season on Saturday, October 30.The Hounds will take on Angelo State University at 4 p.m.
