CANDIDATE FILING DAY [§1-22-3.1 E(3)]
THIS IS THE ONLY DATE AND TIME ON WHICH A PERSON MAY FILE
TO BECOME A CANDIDATE FOR MUNICIPAL OFFICE, UNLESS THE
PERSON FILING WISHES TO BE A WRITE-IN CANDIDATE.
SECTION I. On January 4, 2022, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. a candidate
for city office must personally appear before the City Clerk, at the Portales City Hall, located at
100 West First Street to file all documents required by law, to cause a person to be certified as a
candidate. Note that if a person desiring to be a candidate cannot personally appear on this day,
his/her Authorized Representative (§1-22-3.1E2), another person acting solely on the candidate’s
behalf may, by a Written Authorization signed by the candidate and notarized, file in the office
of the Municipal Clerk all the required documents for the candidate.
Documents required for filing (§1-22-3-B):
1. A declaration of candidacy form (to be obtained from the City Clerk’s office); and
2. A copy of the candidate’s current Certificate of Voter Registration on file with the
Roosevelt County Clerk.
3. Must be registered to vote on or before the Election Proclamation Day, December 1, 2021
(§1-22-3-B).
4. Must show Address as a Street Address NOT A P.O. BOX.
