RICHARDSON, Texas – Senior forward Treyanna Clay and sophomore forward Alivia Lewis swept the weekly Lone Star Conference Player of the Week honors as Clay was named LSC Offensive Player of the Week and Lewis was honored as LSC Defensive Player of the Week by the conference office on Monday.
Clay and Lewis received the awards after leading the Hounds to a pair of wins over two regionally-ranked teams last week. The Hounds rallied to beat No. 9 Tarleton State 73-67 on Thursday before leading from start to finish in a 90-79 victory over the regionally seventh-ranked Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday.
Clay and Lewis became the second and third Greyhounds to receive conference Player of the Award accolades this season. Clay earned her first Offensive Player of the Week Award while it was the second time Lewis was named the LSC Defensive Player of the Week. Lewis also became the first player in the entire conference to be a two-time recipient of the defensive award during the 2018-19 season.
Clay, the senior forward from Tucson, Ariz., received the honor after leading the ENMU scoring efforts with 18.5 points per game while shooting 11-of-21 (52 percent) from the floor and 2-for-3 (67 percent) from the three-point arc, while also knocking down 13-for-19 on her free throw attempts.
Against the TexAnns, Clay scored all 15 of her points in the second half, six of which came during the Hounds’ 10-2 run in the final three minutes. Clay came up with two of the biggest buckets during that stretch, including the game-tying layup with 2:41 to go and with the Hounds leading 66-65 with 50 seconds left, Clay converted a three-point play to put Eastern up by two possessions at 69-65.
Clay followed it up with one of her best all-around games of the season against the Lions, finishing with 22 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, including 2-for-3 from the three-point arc and converted on 8-of-12 free throws to go with three steals. The 22-point effort was her second-highest scoring mark of the season and the most points in a Lone Star Conference game. It was the second time she eclipsed the 20-point mark after scoring 25 points earlier this season at Oklahoma Christian.
On the defensive side, Lewis continued to add to her already phenomenal efforts this season. The Albuquerque, N.M. native had one of her best all-around weekends after averaging 11.5 points per game, 11.5 rebounds per game, 3.5 assists per game, and 2.5 blocks per contest.
In the TSU match, Lewis finished just a point shy of a double-double, recording nine points and 12 rebounds while tying her career-best assist output with four and tied a season-high three blocks. She followed it up in the Commerce game with the fifth double-double of her career, tying a career-best 14 points and ripped down 11 rebounds to go with a pair of blocked shots.
After the weekend, Lewis continues to hold the top spot in the Lone Star in rebounding with 83 (10.4 rpg) in conference contests and ranks second with 17 blocks (2.1 bpg).
The Greyhounds will look to keep their undefeated home winning streak intact tomorrow as Eastern will host the No. 8 team in the nation and regionally third-ranked West Texas A&M in a 5:30 p.m. game presented by Big Valley Auto.
