A celebration of life service for Timmy Kirk Mitchell, 59, will be held at 1:30 PM on September 16, 2023 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel in Portales, NM.
Timmy Kirk Mitchell was born on July 10, 1964 in Portales, New Mexico to Lecil Ruth Cornett (Adams) and William Denver Mitchell and died on Thursday, July 20, 2023 in Portales, New Mexico. Son, Brother, Uncle and Friend: Tim was a massive presence whose loss is a burden, a hole where there was once a pillar.
Tim graduated from Portales High School in 1983 and attended Eastern New Mexico University for three years afterward. After college, he worked at several plants in the area until moving to Seattle, Washington in 1988. There, he worked as a machine operator at the Pepsi-Cola plant from 1988-1990, the ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis technician at the Olympic Development from 1990-1992, the industrial hygienist at Pyramid Brewery from 1992-1998, the water master and caretaker at the Sunland Estates Resort Community from 1998-2001, the staff sanitarian and projects coordinator at The Gorge Amphitheater from 2001-2005 where he loved getting to see many concerts for free, and the caretaker and concierge at the Big Creek private estate from 2001-2006. He then moved back home to his family roots where he inspired the next generation by building castles in the sky or tinker toy forts, telling stories and dreaming of possibilities, collecting old cars and family artifacts, jousting at windmills and always being there to lend a helping hand. Tim was very intelligent and brought a unique perspective to everything. He was out of the box and special, and he took great pride in his stewardship of the land and the legacy.
He is survived by his siblings, Melvin Mitchell and partner Kathy Moore of Amarillo, Texas; Gwen Limmer of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Randy Mitchell and wife Shelli Mitchell of Portales, New Mexico; Lecia Cornett and partner John Kamel of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Rachel Trammell of Atlanta, Georgia and numerous nieces, nephews and friends whom he adored.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Lecil Cornett, father, William Mitchell, and step-father, Duane Cornett, as well as his grandparents, Ira H. Adams and Ruth Fraze, Council and Bertha Mitchell, and Merve P. Cornett and Emma J. Barnard, and his beloved dogs Maynard and Dexter.
