CANYON, Texas – After the completion of the Lone Star Conference Championship game on Sunday, sophomore forward Keyara Zuniga, sophomore defender Hayden Zuniga, and junior midfielder Julia Tucker were named to the LSC All-Tournament Team.
In a season of many first time accomplishments, it was the first time in the history of the program that ENMU had three players named to the All-Tournament Team. The Hounds are coming off their first ever LSC Championship match after winning their first semifinal match in program history against West Texas A&M on Friday.
Keyara Zuniga was named to the squad after scoring a pair of goals in the Hounds 2-0 LSC Quarterfinal match against Texas A&M-Commerce. It was only the second time this season that a Greyhound scored multiple goals in a match and became just the 15th player in program history to accomplish the feat.
Tucker was named to the all-tourney team after scoring the game-winning goal for Eastern during the overtime period in the Hounds 1-0 victory over West Texas A&M in the semifinals. It was Tucker’s first game-winning goal as a member of the Greyhounds and her second goal of the season.
Hayden Zuniga took home all-tourney team accolades as well after guiding the ENMU defense to a pair of shutouts in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds. She led a Hounds defense that only give up four shots on-goal to the Lions during the quarterfinal match and just five shots on-goal to the Lady Buffs in the semifinals.
After dropping a heartbreaking 2-0 decision to Angelo State in the championship match, Eastern finishes the season with a 9-9-2 record. It was the first time the Hounds have won nine games since going 9-8 during the 2014 campaign. It was also the sixth time in program history the Hounds recorded nine or more wins in the program’s 16-year history.
