THE LORD’S SUPPER
by: D. Turner
Does observance of the Lord’s Supper have a profound emotional impact on you, or has it just become a religious ritual to be observed?
Luke 22:19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and broke it, and gave unto them saying, “This is my body which is given for you; this do in remembrance of me.”
When you place the wafer in your mouth, do you envision Christ on the cross, crown of thorns on his head, the stripes on his body from the scourging, and the nails driven into this hands and feet?
Think about it, GOD loves us so much that He gave His only Son as the ultimate and final sacrifice for our sins. It was our sins that nailed him to that cross. He took our place; it should have been us nailed to that cross. Even one of the thieves crucified along side Christ, knew that HE did not belong there.
Matthew 26;27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink ye all of it; for this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.”
As you drink the wine or grape juice, can you see the blood trickling down his face from the pierced skin caused by the crown of thorns? Can you also see, the blood from the scourging he received, and the blood coming forth from the wounds of the nails? This blood shed by him in atonement for our sins. That precious blood of the spotless lamb spilt for our redemption.
Please, the next time you observe the Lord’s Supper, take the time to think about its significance; do not let it be just a religious ritual.
The Lord said, “do this in remembrance of me“, thus it must be of importance; otherwise why would he instruct us to do it!
