The Print Shop Celebrates 50 Years of Business

by Kate Sanchez

The Print Shop has been in business for 50 years, this month.  Owned and operated by Leroy and Gaynelle Thomas, they are a family-owned shop which produces all material by custom orders and have customers from all over NM and west Texas.  From letterheads, business cards, and envelopes, to wedding and graduation announcements, as well was posters of all kinds, The Print Shop can suit whatever your needs may be.  They are also a FedEx receiving company, meaning a customer can drop off an item to be mailed via FedEx.  The Print Shop is also home to the locally famous Portales Tee Vee Vues, a weekly publication of television shows, as well as advertisers from the area, and some other fun items.

The Print shop is a family-owned and operated business.  Leroy and Gaynelle are both active in the day-to-day operations, while their daughter, Cozetta Moore, runs the front end of the store.  Although not born in Portales, Leroy has lived here since 1960, and purchased the business on July 1 of 1970.  They have offered FedEx services for about ten years now. Still today, the whole family enjoys working together.

Moore shares that one of the best parts of owning and operating The Print Shop is the fact that it has literally been “family” all along.  “We’ve had three generations working here at times,” she says, “We’re a business but also a service to the community, and that makes us happy.  We are proud to serve Portales and the surrounding areas.”  Portales is home to The Print Shop, where they’ve earned the title of “People’s Choice” for 5 years running; and that feeling of home and community is carried over into the business.  “We have very loyal customers we’ve gained over time,” Moore shares, “…and we’re loyal to them.  Portales supports Portales, that’s the best part.”

Be sure to stop by the Print Shop for all your printing needs or give them a call at 356-8531.  They are located at located at 1101 E. 3rd St in Portales.  And while you are there, don’t forget to congratulate and thank them for all their years of service to our community!

Editors Note:  There is not a single community event that has gone on in the past 50 years that the Thomas family has not been directly involved in or helped out in some way.  You can always count on them when you need a helping hand – the love they have shown this community in the past 50 years is immeasurable.  Our community has been blessed by the Thomas clan calling this home!  Thank You.
