ALBUQUERQUE  –  The Grant Plant, Inc. is a small, women-owned business dedicated to providing superior and affordable resource development services that assist nonprofit organizations in enhancing the quality of life for New Mexico residents. Now in its 19th year of business, The Grant Plant is celebrating more than $200 million in funded proposals that help tax-exempt organizations secure the resources they need to improve the lives of New Mexicans. “While we don’t build the playgrounds, run the health clinics, or create new murals to brighten a neighborhood, we help make them possible,” said Erin Hielkema, co-founder of The Grant Plant.

When she and her sister, Tara Gohr, founded The Grant Plant in 2003, they set out to assist the important work of nonprofits, especially throughout New Mexico. They developed a flexible approach that is tailored to each of its clients; turning ideas into fundable projects by developing them to meet the aims of philanthropy and funders. “Being a grant professional is so much more than writing,” Gohr comments. “We have the honor of working with some of our state’s most visionary and resourceful leaders to help create programs and services that are making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.” The Grant Plant’s clientele ranges from nonprofit organizations to educational entities to government agencies to anchor institutions. It works with approximately 50 clients to submit well over 300 projects during a given year. It boasts a 68% success rate, approximately double the generally accepted average, and clients’ average return on investment in 2020 was $53.68 for every $1 spent.

The 14-person, all-woman team is close-knit, and is distinguished from freelancers or other consultants by its team approach, commitment to bringing money from outside the state into New Mexico, and an unwavering pursuit of excellent client experiences. Felicia Tapia-Alvidrez, Co-Executive Director of one of The Grant Plant’s longest-standing clients, PB&J Family Services, says “What sets them apart is the wealth of knowledge they have to share. They’re a bridge for us and have helped us create deeper partnerships and collaborations with other organizations.”

As a leading agency in consulting and resource development that facilitates positive outcomes, The Grant Plant, Inc. is a contributor to the vibrancy of New Mexico’s social and economic base, and is proud to have won $200 million for majority New Mexico-based clients throughout the past 19 years.
