Business Spotlight: The Design Wearhouse – come in and take a look around!

The Design Wearhouse, formerly known as Damsels in Distressed and Designs by J, may be a new name, but they’re still providing Portales and the surrounding areas with the best in embroidery and custom gifts. From custom made signs and vinyl, to all your embroidery needs, The Design Wearhouse is a one-stop-shop for gifts and school apparel alike.
Lezlie Privett, owner, was born and raised in Portales. She opened Damsels in Distressed, a store filled with eclectic refinished and refurbished furniture and gifts, in 2016, and then purchased Designs by J, an embroidery shop, in 2017. Privett then merged the two businesses together within the last 6 months, forming what is now one of the area’s neatest shops around.
Privett and her husband operate out of the same building, as he owns Privett Electric. When asked what it’s like running a business in her hometown the store owner says there are definitely some challenges, but overall, it’s been great and that she wouldn’t change a thing.
Their store hours are 9-5 Monday-Friday and they are located at 1408 S. Ave. D in Portales.
