Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Texas Lovell Belcher shares the news of his passing on Saturday, June 18, 2022 in Lubbock, TX, surrounded by his loved ones.  He was 80 years young.  Graveside services for Texas “Tex” Belcher will be held at 10:00 AM, Tues., Aug. 9, 2022 in the Inez Cemetery with Wendell Belcher and Lloyd Belcher officiating.

Tex was born on May 10, 1942 in Portales, NM to the home of Ralph and Ola (Webb) Belcher, the sixth of seven children.  There were six boys and one girl, whom he referred to as “Sis.”  The two of them remained extremely close up to the time of his passing.

Tex attended the Rogers School until it consolidated into the Dora Schools.  Tex graduated in 1960.  While in school, he was active in FFA, basketball and band, but spent much of his time helping out on the family farm/ranch.

Tex continued to farm and ranch around the Rogers community for several years before he accepted a position in the Roosevelt County Treasurer’s office.  After working there for a few years, he moved to the Assessor’s office.  He began there as an assistant and then eventually became the Roosevelt County Assessor, a position he held until his retirement in 2011.

With a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face, Tex never met a stranger.  He always had a joke or a funny story to tell.  He met his companion, Rosalie Crowley in 2002.  They enjoyed travelling, dancing, spending time in casinos, visiting family or watching television at home.

Tex is survived by Rosalie, his loving companion of 19 years; a son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Audrey Belcher of Causey; two daughters, Delisa Wilhite of Clovis and Hadley Dunn of Sierra Vista, AZ; his grandchildren, Layton Belcher, Travis (Amanda) Belcher, Brandi Watkins, Keegan Rury, Hayden Spears, Hannah Spears, Violet Dunn, Willa Dunn, Renee (Wesley) Skelly, Chelsea Gantert; and nine grandchildren; his sister and brother-in-law, LaDoris and Charles Good of Elida and a brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Carla Belcher of Houston, TX; also by Rosalie’s daughter and son-in-law, Cherrie and Rocky Arries of Tajeras, NM, her granddaughter, Jamie (Ian) Dennis of Holden, MO and great-grandson, Levi Dennis; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and his many friends.  His ornery and witty sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Ola Belcher; his brothers, Harold Belcher, Richard “Dick” Belcher, Jerry (Mary) Belcher, Nathan (Norma) Belcher, a brother-in-law, Ralph Allison; a nephew, Randy Allison and a great-nephew, Zinn Lindsey.
