LAREDO, TEXAS – Steady scoring pushed Texas A&M International past Eastern New Mexico baseball, 10-0 (7 Inn.), on Friday afternoon at Jorge Haynes Field. The Hounds fall to 15-26 overall on the season, and 14-25 in conference play. The Dustdevils improve to 14-29 on the campaign and 14-27 in LSC action.

Eastern threatened in the first inning to score the games first run. Camden Matthews led things off with a single to center field. Spencer Roach and Nick Schifftner followed with two-out walks to load the bases. However, the Dustdevils were able to escape the inning with a flyout to right field.

The home team started the scoring in second frame with and handful of singles with two outs. Two straight singles put runners on the corners, and a wild pitch pushed the games first run across, 1-0. A two-run home run started the scoring, and a two out single with a runner on second brought another run home.

The next batter doubled to score one run, and a ground out brought home the third run of the inning for a 7-0 advantage.

The Greyhounds put pressure on the TAMIU defense in the sixth frame. Cooper Hamilton started things off with a double to left field and Roach singled to left field to get runners on the corners. A Schifftner walk loaded the bases, but the Dustdevils turned a 4-3 double play to escape with no runs allowed.

FROM THE SOURCE

“We were not ready to go today from pitch one and there was no sense of urgency,” said Head Baseball Coach Riley Price. “We had opportunities to score runs throughout but did not get back to our approach until it was too late. A few hard barrels right at guys that didn’t help and we did hit spots on the mound,” said Price. “Defensively, we should have made a few plays that could have stopped the bleeding but did not. Overall, we got beat in every facet today and need to come out the rest of the weekend with a lot more focus and competitive edge to us,” said Price.
