Sweet Cakes Bakery and The Happy Place.
Walked in today to get a “little” help with a crochet project and got a “LOT” of help. Great advice and a quick “free” lesson on button holes. The entire place smells yummy, the yarns are all so soft and inviting. With a comfortable chair sitting in the window…I just wanted to sit down and spend the afternoon watching the traffic go by while I eat cookies and crochet. Which I think might be the idea behind Mary and Julie’s new shop. It really is a happy place!
If you have not stopped in to see the new shop, this is a great place for stocking stuffers and warm snuggie hats. Lots of really cool hand-crafted items and plenty of baked goods to take home.
Mary Newell is the baker with her business, Sweet Cakes Bakery. She will take custom orders for any and all special occasions. If you have not had one of Mary’s amazing cakes, well you are missing out – almost too pretty to eat.
Julie Rooney, owner of The Happy Place, which retails the goodies that Mary makes. The Happy Place has candy and yarn and gifts.
They will be offering classes soon in knit and crochet, yarn dyeing and pattern reading very soon.
Right now, through the holiday, they are open Monday thru Saturday 10-5. Located on the Square in Portales, right next to WMC Salon and Spa.
