Hello!

We are so excited for the Portales Public Library Tails & Tales Summer Reading Program! We have programming and reading incentives for all ages. We will have in-person programming this year (yay!), but we will require masks and social distancing for as long as it is required statewide. Things will look a little different, as we will be at the Portales Rec Center daily for children’s programming (12 years old and younger), unless stated otherwise. Registration will begin Tuesday, June 1st from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at the library. We will have games to play while everyone is getting registered. Everyone is still welcome to register throughout the summer if you are unable to join us June 1st.

Daily Programs at 10:30 am will be as follows:

Mondays – Monkey Business – Games & STEAM (K-6th Grades)

Tuesdays – How-to Tuesdays – Crafts/Experiments (2nd-6th Grades)

Wednesdays – Once Upon a Storytime – Preschool Storytime & Craft (Preschool and younger)

Thursdays – The Mane Attraction – Guest Performers (All Ages)

Fridays – Creature Feature – Movie & Popcorn (All Ages)

Registration is required for all participants of Summer Reading activities. This will be ongoing throughout the 7-week program. If you need to register on a day other than the Registration day, we ask that you come a little early to fill out paperwork so we can get started on time.

We will enter the Portales Recreation Center, located at 1001 W. 18th Street, using the East side entrance (through the gated area). We will have capacity limits. When those limits are reached, we will close the gate and post a sign. If the program has started, the gate will also be closed. Please try again for the next program.

Please pay attention to ages, as every day is for a specific age group. Parents are invited to stay but if they are unable to, we will need registration, with current contact information, upon arrival. Kids must be picked by 11:30 am except movie days, when they must be picked up by the end of the movie. If children are dropped off and not picked up on time, staff will attempt to call parents then alert Portales Police Department, if necessary. If this becomes a pattern; unfortunately, your child will no longer be able to attend programming. We are only at the Rec Center for a short time and must return to the library to carry out our duties there. We appreciate your consideration and help in keeping your children safe.

Please call with any questions you may have. We look forward to seeing everyone this summer. We are sure it is going to be a roaring good time!

Sincerely,

Sarah Victor Children’s Librarian  Portales Public Library  575-356-3940
