Eastern New Mexico University recently approved the return of student-athletes to campus within the next few weeks in order to begin preparing for potential winter and spring competitions.

Both men’s and women’s basketball teams will return to campus beginning Oct. 20, while the rest of the athletic programs will return during the week of Nov. 2. All student-athletes will be tested for COVID-19 once they arrive on campus and must document a negative test result prior to participating in any team activities.

Teams will begin a resocialization phase during the next few weeks aimed at beginning the process of preparation for the winter and spring schedules while adhering to strict COVID-19 safety guidelines which have been outlined by the State of New Mexico, the Lone Star Conference and the NCAA.

All coaches and staff members have been encouraged to invite student-athletes who have chosen to live in Portales, New Mexico or the surrounding areas for their fall semester for this initial resocialization phase. A full return for each program, aside from the men’s and women’s basketball programs who may begin their championship segment on Oct. 20, is expected to occur in early January.

More information regarding potential winter and spring schedules will be announced in the coming weeks as information becomes available.
