Stan, as he was known to family and friends, lived in the Floyd community until he was about 12 years old. At that time, the family moved to Portales where he graduated from Portales High School in 1969. While in school, Stan ran the 110 and 300 hurdles. While in college at Eastern New Mexico University he was on the swim team, and was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. Stan graduated in 1973 with a degree in business. His first job was at First Federal in Clovis where he began doing property appraisals. It was during that time that he was named as the “Most Eligible Bachelor” in Clovis. He was married to Gail Graham of Friona, TX on Mar. 25, 1978.
Following their marriage, Stan and Gail moved to Albuquerque, and later to Hobbs, Houston, Angel Fire and Taos where he continued to be employed by banks as an appraiser. They finally returned to Clovis where he established his own appraisal business, and then in 1990, he and his family moved back to Portales to take over his father’s property management business. The rest of Stan’s life he bought and sold real estate. While his son and sons-in-law were in college, he established a landscaping and firewood business for the young men to work in while they finished their degrees.
Stan enjoyed a wide variety of things in his leisure time. He was an excellent artist and carpenter. He did competitive weight lifting, and Karate. He loved to garden and maintain a beautiful yard. Stan was an avid gun enthusiast, and on the more adventurous side, he enjoyed hang gliding. He was a member of the Third and Kilgore Church of Christ.
