Obituary
Graveside services for Stanley L. Gardner, 78, of Canyon, TX will be held at 10:00 AM, Sat., May 1, 2021 in the Causey Cemetery with Rev. Brian Hevrin officiating. All of his family members and many friends will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Stanley Landrum Gardner was born Apr. 29, 1942 in Portales, NM to the home of Ruby Lorene (Landrum) and Everett Roscoe Gardner, and died peacefully at his home in Canyon, TX on April 26, 2021. Stanley grew up in Causey, and graduated from Causey High School in 1960. On June 18, 1963 in Lingo, he was married to Jim Ann Brown. They farmed in the area until 1970, when they moved to Tulia, TX to make their home. After he retired from farming in 1990, Mr.Gardner began working for Swisher County driving a road maintainer. In 2014, he changed jobs, and began commuting to Canyon, TX where he thoroughly enjoyed driving the bus for the students at West Texas State University. He said that was his favorite job of his entire lifetime. About two years ago, he and his wife moved to Canyon to make their home. In 2020, when things shut down due to Covid19, he was forced into retirement.
He was a lifelong member of the Baptist Church, and at the time of his death he was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Tulia. He enjoyed doing woodworking, building various pieces of furniture, such as cedar chests, and tables, etc. Stanley enjoyed gardening, and could grow any kind of plant. Fishing and traveling and reading western novels were among his other pass times.
Stanley is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and LaQuita Gardner of Dalhart, TX and Jeremy and Emily Gardner of Pataskala, OH; a daughter, Tammy Rich of Adrian, TX; six grandchildren, Tashia Gardner, Candy Ames and husband, Brad, Delwin Gardner, Olivia Gardner, Lucy Gardner and Reid Gardner; four great-grandchildren, Adysen Gardner, Kayzlee Sifuentes, and Marley and Ethan Ames; a brother and sister-in-law, Don and Sandy Gardner of Clayton, NM; a sister-in-law, Sonja Gardner of Lubbock, TX and a brother-in-law, H. B. McIntire. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Kermit Gardner, two sisters and a brother-in-law, Wanda and E. L. Hinton and Edna McIntire, a son-in-law, Dale Rich and by his beloved wife, Jim Ann Gardner who died April 17, 2020.
