5/1/2021 | Softball | Box Score 1 | Box Score 2CANYON, Texas – The Eastern New Mexico softball team took on No. 10 nationally-ranked West Texas A&M on Saturday afternoon. The Greyhounds fell 10-0 (5 inn.) in the first contest and 8-0 (5 inn.) in the second.

GAME ONE: WT 10, ENMU 0 (5 INN.)

West Texas A&M quickly jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first innings, highlighted by an RBI triple from Ruby Salzman and a three-run homer from Julie Guzman.

The Lady Buffs tallied three runs in the third and two runs in the fourth while keeping the Hounds off the board to secure the 10-0 five inning victory.

Eastern was outhit 11-0 throughout the contest.

Jordan Bowman got the start and loss in the circle. She allowed 10 hits, eight runs (five earned), and one walk in 3.0 innings. Azalea Martinez finished out the game and allowed one hit, two runs (one earned), and one walk.

GAME TWO: WT 8, ENMU 0 (5 INN.)

Once again, the Lady Buffs got on the board first. They took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Sydney Greeson recorded an RBI single while Erica Vessels drove in two runs on a single up the middle.

West Texas A&M then saw three more runs score in the fourth to extend the lead to 6-0.

In the bottom of the fifth, WT saw a two-run homer from Cinthia Garcia to end the contest and secure the doubleheader sweep.

The Hounds were held hitless by Lady Buff pitcher, Emilee Wilson.

Brook Leger was credited with the loss in the circle for Eastern. She allowed 10 hits and eight runs (six earned) while striking out two batters in 4.2 innings of work.

The Greyhounds are back in action on May 5 when they travel to St. Mary’s for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
