SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Eastern New Mexico softball team traveled to St. Mary’s for a Lone Star Conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. The Greyhounds fell 3-1 in the first contest and 12-0 in the second.

GAME ONE: STMU 3, ENMU 1

The Rattlers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the second inning after taking advantage of several walks, stolen bases, and an Eastern error.

Eastern responded in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game 1-1 on an RBI double from Jokaira Paredes.

St. Mary’s got a rally going in the top of the seventh with two runs to take a 3-1 advantage after an RBI single from Jayme Johns and an RBI double from Ericka Gomez.

In the bottom of the frame, the Rattlers managed to shut down the Greyhound offense to secure the close 3-1 victory.

Offensively, Eastern was led by Kianna Galindo and Alanna Larkins who both went 2-for-3 at the plate. Paredes and Maite Bustillos each recorded one hit in the contest.

Brook Leger was credited with the loss in the circle. She tossed all seven innings and allowed six hits, three runs (two earned), and four walks while striking out six batters.

GAME TWO: STMU 12, ENMU 0 (5 INN.)

St. Mary’s opened the second contest of the day with two runs in the first inning, highlighted by an RBI double by Abigale Carney.

The Rattlers added five more runs in the top of the second frame. Victoria Aldridge sent home two runs on a triple to right center while Carney hit a three-run homer to give St. Mary’s a 7-0 lead.

In the third inning, the Rattlers saw three more runs cross home plate to extend their advantage to 10-0.

St. Mary’s closed out the game by tallying two runs in the top of the fifth and then shutting down the Greyhound bats in the bottom of the frame to earn the 12-0 five-inning win.

Azalea Martinez and Bella Mendoza led the way offensively for the Hounds with one hit each.

Bustillos pitched the first 1.2 innings and was credited with the loss. Martinez and Leger also saw time in the circle throughout the rest of the game.

Eastern finishes out the season with an 11 a.m. doubleheader at St. Edward’s on Friday, May 7.
