COMMERCE, TEXAS – The Eastern New Mexico softball team opened the 2021 season at No. 5 nationally-ranked Texas A&M-Commerce on Friday afternoon. The Hounds fell by scores of 12-0 and 13-0.
GAME ONE: TAMUC 12, ENMU 0 (5 INNINGS)
The Lions jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning, scoring eight runs on four hits and two Greyhound errors.
Texas A&M-Commerce then made it a 10-0 game in the third, highlighted by a double from Avery Boley and singles from Alyssa LeBlanc, Uxua Modrego, and Madison Schaefer.
The bottom of the fourth inning saw the Lions tally two more runs to make the score 12-0 and they held off the Hound offense to secure the win.
Brook Leger got the start in the circle and was also credited with the loss for Eastern in 0.2 innings of work. Jordan Bowman finished out the game and recorded two strikeouts.
Offensively, Azalea Martinez had the lone hit for the Hounds with a single in the second inning.
GAME TWO: TAMUC 13, ENMU 0 (5 INNINGS)
Texas A&M-Commerce scored five runs on five hits in the second inning to take the lead. The Lions saw another eight runs cross home plate in the third inning and never looked back on the way to a 13-0 victory.
The Greyhound offense got the bats going more in this second contest with Jokaira Paredes, Bella Mendoza, and Mikenzey Patterson all recording singles.
Tava Boone had the start and the loss for Eastern. She finished the game with two strikeouts and five hits allowed in 2.1 innings. Maite Bustillos and Leger also saw time in the circle for the Hounds and they each recorded one strikeout during the contest.
Eastern New Mexico travels to UT Tyler on Sunday, March 7 for a conference doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 10 a.m.
