OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Eastern New Mexico softball team traveled to Oklahoma Christian for a Lone Star Conference doubleheader on Friday. The Greyhounds fell 12-0 in the first contest and 8-1 in the second.

GAME ONE: OCU 12, ENMU 0 (5 INNINGS)

The No. 13 nationally-ranked Eagles wasted no time getting the bats going as they gained a 5-0 lead in the first inning. All of those five runs came off home runs. Brooklin Bain had a solo shot to right field to start the inning and then Brianna Robinson hit a grand slam to right center.

In the bottom of the second frame, the Eagles continued to find success at the plate with five more runs, highlighted by a two-run homer by Robinson.

Oklahoma Christian tallied two more runs in the bottom of the third and then shut down the Hounds the rest of the way to secure the 12-0 victory in five innings.

Offensively, Maite Bustillos and Jokaira Paredes led the way with a hit each.

Bustillos got the start and loss in the circle. Jordan Bowman finished out the game and allowed just two hits in two innings.

GAME TWO: OCU 8, ENMU 1

The Greyhounds got one run on the board in the first inning. Bustillos got her second hit of the day with a single to start things out. She advanced to second on a wild pitch and third on a single from Paredes. On an error from the pitcher, Bustillos rounded home to give Eastern the 1-0 advantage.

Oklahoma Christian tallied one run in each of the first four innings and two runs in both the fifth and sixth frames to take an 8-1 lead.

Eastern continued to battle to the very end and attempted a late rally in the seventh. Bailey Johnson hit a lead-off double down the left field line to get herself into scoring position. Alanna Larkins followed that up with a single and advanced to second on the throw, while Johnson made it to third. A walk for Alejandra Gallegos loaded the bases with no outs.

However, the Eagles regrouped and managed to get three outs while holding the Hounds from scoring to end the contest and pick up the doubleheader sweep.

Five different Eastern student-athletes recorded one hit each throughout the game. Johnson had a double, while Bustillos, Paredes, Larkins, and Aylene Lucero all had singles.

Bowman earned the start in the circle for the Hounds and was credited with the loss. She allowed seven hits in three innings of work. Brook Leger pitched the last three innings.

Eastern is back in action on Sunday for a conference doubleheader with Cameron starting at 11 a.m.
