KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Eastern New Mexico softball team traveled to No. 15 nationally-ranked Texas A&M-Kingsville for a Lone Star Conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon. The Greyhounds fell 8-0 in the first contest and 15-1 in the second.

GAME ONE: TAMUK 8, ENMU 0 (5 INNINGS)

The Javelinas jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning, highlighted by a two-run homer from Kayla Gonzales. TAMUK doubled that lead to 6-0 in the second frame after taking advantage of several wild pitches.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Javelinas saw two runs on three hits to secure the 8-0 five-inning victory.

Leading the Hounds offensively was Azalea Martinez who finished 2-for-2 at the plate with two doubles. Aylene Lucero also recorded a hit for Eastern in the contest.

In the circle, Maite Bustillos get the start and the loss for the Greyhounds. She had three strikeouts and allowed seven runs and seven hits in 4.1 innings. Tava Boone finished out the game with a strikeout and two hits allowed.

GAME TWO: TAMUK 15, ENMU 1 (5 INNINGS)

Martinez continued to give the Hounds much needed offensive firepower in the second contest as she ripped a solo home run to left field in the second inning to cut TAMUK’s lead to 2-1.

The Javelinas had a big second inning, scoring seven runs on eight hits. Jennifer Giesey had a two-run homer, while Gonzales hit a three-run home run, which was her second of the afternoon.

The third and fourth innings saw TAMUK score two and four runs, respectively. The Javelinas then held off the Eastern offensive in the top of the fifth to earn the 15-1 win and doubleheader series victory.

Bella Mendoza led the Hounds as she went 2-for-2 at the plate. Martinez, Jokaira Paredes, and Mikenzey Patterson each tallied one hit.

Tava Boone got the start and loss in the circle in 2.2 innings pitched. Bustillos finished out the contest for Eastern.

The Greyhounds face Texas A&M International in a 12 p.m. non-conference matchup tomorrow (3/20).
