Memorial services for Shirlene Rogers, 82, of Portales, will be announced at a later time.
Shirlene Yvonne Rogers was born Nov. 3, 1939 in Porterville, CA to the home of Willomae Edith (Saunders) and Andrew Clyde Hillis and died on Nov. 29, 2021 at her home. The family was living in Clovis by the time she was a teenager, and she attended junior high and high school there. On Feb. 20, 1955 at the age of 15, she was married to John Fair. The couple had four children together. Shortly after they were married, he joined the US Navy, and they were stationed in several places over the next four years. In 1959, they returned to Clovis where they lived until 1964 when they moved to Portales. Roosevelt county remained her home for the rest of her life.
On Nov. 8, 1976 in Santa Rosa, NM she was married to Bob Rogers. Mrs. Rogers enjoyed collecting antiques and countless other collectables such as dolls and various toys. She also enjoyed playing the slot machines at the casino. Her greatest source of enjoyment was being with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Rogers was a member of the Dora Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Rogers of their home; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Andy and Tracy Fair of Portales, Fred Fair of Fritch, TX, and Bobby and Tonya Rogers of Portales; four daughters, Brenda Lucas and her significant other, David Hall of Clovis, Roxie Gilmore and husband, Joe of Elida, Sommer Goodwin and husband, Justin of Rogers and Becky Eccles and husband, Joe of Las Vegas, NV; 27 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Gary Hillis, a sister, Donna Wegner and two grandchildren.
