Sheila Savitz was born June 17, 1948 in Norfolk, VA to the home of Margaret Kay (Taylor) and Phillip Edward Lockamy and passed from this life on Sat., June 3, 2023 in Ruston, LA where she had been living recently in an assisted living facility. In 1960, the family moved to Virginia Beach, VA. Sheila left school at a very early age, and began working to help support her family. Her first places of employment were in local grocery stores. Then in the early 1970; she moved to Pensacola, FL and later to Charleston, SC. In 1973 in Norfolk, VA, she was married to Connell Savitz. While living in Charleston, Sheila acquired her Real Estate License, and proceeded to became a multi-million-dollar producer.
In 1995, she moved to Portales, which remained her home until May of 2021, when due to her failing health, she moved to Louisiana to be near her daughter and son-in-law. A short time after moving to Portales, Sheila purchased a consignment store which eventually became Consigning Women. Through the years, it has become a large and thriving business on the square.
Sheila began attending church many years ago before coming to Portales. She was a longtime member of Faith Christian Family Church in Clovis. Sheila began her day with her daily Bible study and prayer time.
In addition to the store, Sheila began what is known as Angel Ministries. On Saturday mornings, she would prepare breakfast for the homeless population, do basic medical care, provide a place for them to clean up, and get clean clothing. In addition, she helped countless individuals get into rehab. Local judges and attorneys called her to help various individuals, and she made court appearances on the part of several individuals.
Sheila was a caretaker all of her life. She took care of each of her family members at one time or another. Her children were always her priority. In addition, countless others became adopted family for her. She enjoyed doing arts and crafts projects, and Sheila loved her parakeets, Pete and Repeat.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Tim Baldwin of Calhoun, LA; her two grandchildren, Hannah Savitz and Rhyon Savitz; her brother, George D. Harris of Naples, FL and her sister, Thelma Witkowski of Tunkhannock, PA; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her beloved co-workers at Consigning Women who were some of those adopted family members for her. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Connell Savitz and her son, Rob Savitz.
