PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Volleyball enter the weekend at 6-3, as they travel to Austin, Texas for the LSC Crossover over the next three days. ENMU will play three conference opponents in non-conference contests during the tournament. First, Eastern will face Oklahoma Christian on Thursday, Sept. 8 at 2:30 p.m. The next day, the Greyhounds will battle the host St. Edward’s on Frisay, Sept. 9 at 5 p.m. ENMU conclude the weekend with a match against Texas A&M-Kingsville, taking place on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 11 a.m.

SCHEDULE OUTLOOK 

The Hounds have a 28 games schedule ahead of them this season. Starting the first weekends with three tournaments and 12 games total. From then, ENMU head straight into conference play against Oklahoma Christian on Sept. 16, which will stand as the Hounds opening game at Greyhound Arena. ENMU will play at Greyhound Arena eight separate times, as part of the 16 Lone Star Conference schedule.

MEET THE SQUAD

ENMU Volleyball features 20 student-athletes, with 13 members returning from the 2021 season and seven newcomers. Of the new additions to the team, four will play their first collegiate volleyball and three come to Eastern as a transfer. Reigning LSC Rookie of the Year Mikaela Garvin is back with the program after collecting 213 kills and averaging 2.22 kills per set, and 2.55 points per game. Gracelyn Stubbscomes back after leading the program with 85.0 blocks last season, and Qitana Sapiga provided 368 assists last season, second most on the team.

LAST TIME OUT

In its last weekend of action, the Greyhounds picked up three wins (3-0 against Northwestern Oklahoma State, 3-2 over Ouachita Baptist, and 3-0 versus East Central). The highlight of the weekend was the 3-2 comeback win over OUA. The Hounds trailed 2-0 after the first two set and pulled it back to take the win. Garvin, Stubbs, Getsemani Carrasco, and Adriana Puni all picked up All-Tournament honors.

SERIES RECORDS

The Eagles and Greyhounds met for the first time in program history last season, with ENMU coming away with a 3-0 sweep. St. Edward’s holds the series lead over 10-3 Eastern, with the Hilltoppers taking the last three meetings. The Greyhounds hold the all-time series lead against the Javelinas of Texas A&M-Kingsville, ENMU have won the last three matchups between the two sides.
