Second NCAA South Central Regional Rankings Tab Women’s Basketball No. 9

Eastern New Mexico women’s basketball held onto the No. 9 spot in the second edition of the NCAA South Central Regional Rankings, released Wednesday afternoon.

The Hounds will continue to eye the regional rankings closely as they wrap-up their 2019-20 regular season schedule this weekend against Cameron and Midwestern State. Eastern will have this weekend’s homestand and the Lone Star Conference Tournament to improve their ranking with hopes of earning their second-consecutive NCAA Tournament bid.

The top eight programs in each region will earn a spot in the NCAA Regional Tournament and even though these current rankings are a decent indicator of which teams will be eligible for postseason play, the rankings released during the selection show will be the final determinant. The selection show will take place on March 8, at 8:00 p.m. and will be streamed on NCAA.com.

The South Central Regional Rankings are dominated by the LSC with seven of the ten spots awarded to Lone Star squads. The nationally ranked trio of #4 Texas A&M-Commerce, #13 Lubbock Christian and #20 West Texas A&M lead the pack. Colorado Mesa, Western Colorado and Westminster represent the three Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams as they sit in the No. 4, 5 and 6 spots respectively. Angelo State owns the No. 7 spot followed by Tarleton, Eastern and St. Edward’s.

The Green and Silver sit at 18-8 on the year with a 12-8 LSC record and a 16-8 in-region record. If either Angelo or Tarleton suffer losses this weekend the Greyhounds have a legitimate chance to vault their conference rivals and climb into the NCAA South Central Region Playoff pool.
