Sawyer Wortham Obituary
Sawyer Wortham, 69 of Portales, NM, was born March 10, 1955 to the home of William “George” and Nanny “Elizabeth” (Clark) Wortham and passed from this life in his home on February 15, 2025.
Sawyer was the sixth child of seven. When he was four years old, the family moved from Inez, NM to Portales where he graduated from Portales High School in 1974. Sawyer was always a hard worker and began working at a very early age helping with farm work and delivering papers for the Portales News Tribune. As he got older, he worked in construction locally and in several other states. Later he worked for Privett Hatchery until his health forced a retirement that he thought was entirely too early. He kept as busy as possible with several rental properties and his love for outdoor activities including hunting and camping. He was known for his problem-solving skills and loved to keep his mind active with various types of puzzles including anything mechanical, but also a great love for Sudoku.
Sawyer is survived by five brothers and four sisters-in-law: Warren & Rebecca, Newell & Pam, Charles & Kay, Wallace, and Rowdy & LaWanda; sixteen nieces and nephews, forty-two great nieces and nephews, eighteen great-great nieces and nephews, and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and brother-in-law Rosemary (Wortham) & Ray Cavett; one nephew, Jr. Cotton; 2 great nephews, Shawn Gallegos and Neal Crowley; and several uncles and aunts.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
