With around 100 fans in attendance, mostly from the host town, Hatch, NM, home of our famous green chiles, the Rams faced off against the Hatch Valley Bears today.
Kickoff was at 4 PM and the Rams were the first to tack on points. Portales kept that same pattern throughout the rest of the game. With big plays made by #6 Eric Ramirez and QB #7 Elijah Kladiihbah, as well as a late 2nd quarter Hatch fumble recovery by the Rams, Portales went into halftime ahead 20-0.
Hatch received the ball on the 2nd half kickoff, and the Rams forced a punt. Following the turnover on downs, Portales had a big 47-yard pass for another touchdown. Hatch received the following kickoff, and after a 3-and-out, the Rams blocked their punt, #23 Emmanuel Diahn got the ball and returned it for a 45-yard touchdown!
Poor Hatch was handed another battle against Portales’ defense, having to punt again. That led to a 40-yard rushing touchdown for the Rams, who ahead at this point by 40-0.
The clock began running in the 3rd, so the game ended quickly with Portales holding strong at 40 points. The final score was 40-0. The Rams are now 2-5 this season. Their next game is scheduled for Friday, October 15 at 7 PM in Ruidoso where they will take on the Warriors.
