Sandra Liliana Caldera was born July 17, 1984 in Juarez, Mexico to Dora Carmona and Robert Caldera, and died on the morning of Sept. 8, 2022 as the result of an auto accident. She and her family moved to San Jon, NM in 1985. Sandra was a 2003 graduate of San Jon High School. In 2013, she entered the Single Mother’s Program sponsored by the New Mexico Christian Children’s Home. Sandra earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Eastern New Mexico University in University Studies with an emphasis in Early Childhood Development, and went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Counseling.
She was hired by the New Mexico Christian Children’s Home as Assistant for the Single Parent Ministry, and was soon promoted to the Adoptive Homes Ministry. In addition, she was a counselor for the home’s residents. She was responsible in part in the development of the Young Adults and the Young Mothers Ministries.
Sandra enjoyed traveling, especially to the mountains. Wherever she went, she was taking photos. Playing Volleyball, listening to music, her morning cup of coffee, and being with her family were her sources of greatest joy and contentment. Her son, was her pride and joy, and her life was centered around him and his activities and sports. In addition, she loved spending time with her nieces and nephews. Above all was her deep and abiding love for God and His goodness in her life. She was a member of the Southside Church of Christ.
Sandra is survived by her son, Othon “Tony” Rodriguez of Portales; her mother, Dora Carmona of Portales and her father, Robert Caldera of San Jon, NM; three sisters, Diana Caldera and Selina Caldera both of Clovis and Jessica Caldera of Portales; as well as several nieces and nephews and countless friends; and the many lives she has touched through her ministry at the home.
