Ruth Chase Obituary

Graveside services for Lavon Chase, 84, of Clovis, will be held at 2:00 PM, Sat., Oct. 26, 2024 in the Kenna Cemetery with Jeff Bilberry officiating, assisted by Duane Chase.  All of Mrs. Chase’s family will be honorary pallbearers.

Ruth “Lavon” Chase was born Mar. 24, 1940 in the Bethel community to the home of Susie Louise (Emberson) and Nathaniel Lafayette “Fate” Tivis, and passed from this life on Tues., Oct. 22, 2024 in Clovis.  Mrs. Chase graduated from Portales High School in 1958.  She had become acquainted with an airman, Johnny Chase, who was stationed at Cannon Air Force Base, and they were married on June 28, 1958 in Portales.  Over the next several years, the couple moved from duty station to duty station until her was restationed in Clovis in 1974.  Clovis remained Mrs. Chase’s home for the remainder of her life.

Mrs. Chase was raised in the Assembly of God Church in Portales, and had been a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Clovis.  Throughout her lifetime she had a very deep love and devotion to the Lord.  It remained the most important part of her life until her death.  Lavon enjoyed playing the piano, and in her younger years sang with her sisters.  She was an accomplished seamstress, and created beautiful clothes for herself and her daughter.  She kept an immaculate home.

She is survived by Johnny Chase, her husband of more than 66 years of their home; a son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Lisa Chase of Clovis; a daughter and son-in-law, Cheree and Jeff Bilberry of Kenna, NM; five grandchildren, Jared and Lauri Chase, Derek Chase and fiancé, Kendra Yapyappen, Lauren and Eric Wait, Tori and Sterling Morris and Trent and Bailey Bilberry; three great-grandchildren, Gemma and Isla Wait and Alice Bilberry; a brother, Jerry Tivis of Portales; and two sisters, Mary Helen Corbin of Lubbock, and Laveda Miller of Portales.  She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, J. R. Tivis, Billy Ray Tivis and Donny Tivis, a sister, Virginia Stewart and by two grandchildren, Trey Chase Bilberry and Taylor Hope Bilberry.
