I have lived in Portales my entire life. I had a great childhood with supportive parents that cheered me on in every sport I set out to play. They instilled in me a hard work ethic and a strong aptitude for teamwork. During my high school years I was able to be a part of the Portales High School basketball team that eventually went all the way to the state championship in 2001. Scoring 6 points in overtime for the victory was a highlight for me.
After high school, I attended college at ENMU and had a great experience. In 2007 I married my high school sweetheart, Cassidy. We have an energetic 4 year old son, Clark that brings us so much joy. I am a Christian, my family and I are proud members of Legacy Church. I am a businessman that has been fortunate enough to be involved with many family ventures over the years. Most Days you will find me at Ace Hardware in Portales. I have been involved in the family business for over 16 years now. My roots are strong here and my attention is hardwired in this Community. We are continually reinvesting in our businesses and our community. Portales and Roosevelt County has always been a region where opportunities within arm’s reach. Here, an affordable place where a dream could be turned into a reality.
My family and I are forever grateful for the communities support over the years. I would like for my son and future generations to have the same possibilities. I want to make sure the decisions made by our city leaders today are PRO-BUSINESS! We need Portales to grow and prosper just like we need our people to grow and prosper. Let’s make sure we are making good decisions for everyone’s future.
~Priorities~
1. Water
This should be everyone’s #1 issue and should be taken on with urgency. As a community we need to be open minded to solve this issue. I am certain that we cannot solely rely on the Ute Pipe line. I think the Government has put enough money and publicity that they will get this will get Ute Pipe line done. I don’t want to rely on one source to solve our problems nor do I want to rely on the government to completely solve our water issue. We are behind and our infrastructure is far from adequate to sustain our current demands let alone be in a position for our town to grow. I am a part of a community group that is looking to come up with any and all ideas to help provide solutions. Again, this going to take
multiple solutions to solve our aquafer that is slowly depleting. If we don’t have water we won’t have a town.
Priority 1: Water
Water Solutions List:
1. Privatize our water provider
2A.Privatize our effluent water system and make sure it is working properly (and possibly to smell better for community near that area being watered with the effluent water)
2B. Possibility to make effluent water potable? How feasible is it?
3. Make sure our current well is working efficiently and replace any old wells with variable speed pumps.
4. Stop restriction of water meters for new businesses and new construction. WE SHOULD ALL BE PRO-BUSINESS!
5. Research leasing water from local farmers and tying it into the system. Create a win-win for farmers that may be struggling to keep farming in a current droughty area. We lease the water and they help supplement the land they own.
6. Support conservation efforts and find funding for new efforts.
Priority 2: Community unity
I believe that we have to all work together to bridge the current gaps between our local governments. The City, County, air base, and university need to work together. To assure that our community can thrive like we have in the past. We need to have a future that looks bright in our community. I ask if you have younger kids, what are the chances they would want to live here when they are older?
