Funeral services for Roy D Rackler, 82, of Portales, will be held at 10:00 AM, Wed., Aug. 4, 2021 at the Emmanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Dag Sewell officiating, assisted by Rev. Josh Faucett and Jonathan Smith. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Josh Faith, Jonathan Smith, Allan Foote, Wesley Foote, William Head and Clay Wier serving as pallbearers. Roy D Rackler was born Feb. 3, 1939 in Lorenzo, TX to the home of Vada “Birdie” (Carter) and Robert Freeman Rackler, and died Friday morning, July 30, 2021 in Portales. Roy grew up on the South Plains of the Texas panhandle until his second semester of his junior year of high school. At that time, the family moved to a farm south of Floyd. Roy graduated from Floyd High School in the spring of 1957, and went on to study for two years at Eastern New Mexico University. After his Sophomore year of college, he began working in construction as a brick layer. Later he became a concrete mason. In 1976, he got his General Contractor’s License, and then in 1984 he became a Real Estate Broker. Roy continued building and dealing in Real Estate.
On Feb. 25, 1961, he was married to Jo Killgore at the Emmanuel Baptist Church. He was a member there until his death, serving as a Men’s Sunday School Teacher, a Wednesday night Bible study teacher, and church Treasurer. Roy was a member of Gideon’s International, and had served as President for the past several years. Through the years he had spoken at countless churches throughout the area on behalf of the Gideons. If he was not selling or buying something, he was playing golf.
Roy is survived by Jo, his wife of 60 years of their home; a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Joann Rackler of Portales; a daughter and son-in-law, Dee and Dag Sewell of Portales; seven grandchildren, Rachel (Josh) Faith of Lovington, NM, Tessa (Jonathan) Smith of Albuquerque, NM, Hunter Rackler and his fiancé, Donella Reyes of Lubbock, TX, Charity (Allan) Foote of Destrehan, LA, Leighanna (Wesley) Foote of Peyton, CO, Abigail (William) Head of Alamogordo, NM and Tabitha (Clay) Wier of McDonald, NM; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Colleen who died at 9 months, a brother, Freeman who also died at 9 months and two other brothers, Robert and Donald Rackler.
