For the fourth time this season, senior Mercy Rotich from the Eastern New Mexico women’s cross country team was named the Lone Star Conference Female Runner of the Week by the conference office on Thursday.

Rotich earned the accolade after leading the ENMU women’s cross country team to a first place finish at the Lone Star Conference Preview hosted by West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas on Saturday. As a team, the Hounds totaled 33 points, scoring five points ahead of Cameron for the team championship.

Individually, Rotich ran away with the 6k event title, crossing the finish line in 21:48.65 and beating the next closet runner by 1:34.85. It was her second event win since joining the Greyhounds, with her last win coming in the 2016 NCAA Division II South Central Region Championship. In her second year of competition with the Hounds, Rotich has six top-three finishes, three in this season alone.

Her time of 21:48.65 also set the third-fastest 6k time in the history of the women’s cross country program. Currently, Rotich holds the four fastest 6k times in the ENMU record book.

Rotich will be gunning for her second straight win as the ENMU cross country team will be competing once again at The Pitch in Canyon for the Lone Star Conference Championship on Nov. 3. The men’s race is slated for 8:30 a.m. while the women’s race is scheduled for a 9:30 a.m. start.
